I have a customer who wants to match a previously "Thermoplaqued" diploma and frame three others like the original. Although I attempted to talk her out of this means of "permanently Preserving" her diploma, she insists. I have found a company that does this process in California. Anybody aware of anyone on the east coast who does this thermoplaque process?

Plasti-Plak is in Brooklyn. They've been doing this a long time so there are lots of their plaques out there.

They have a website (I think) where you can get more info and see if it's what your customer already has.

And, no, it's not a process I would recommend, but people who had a bunch done years ago don't want to hear that, and it's not like you can re-frame the old ones.

Plasti-Plak's phone is 718 937-5910.

Website is www.plastiplak.com

I know that some of the ones we sent off to be done 20 years ago are now still hanging but I would not do it because some of them are very dark and strange from the florescent lighting. Once done, there is no going back.

Also, make sure you caution your customer that any raised gold seals, etc. will be completely flattened in the process.

I would actually prefer, in this case, if the customer could order their plaques directly from Plasti-Plak and leave me out of it. It doesn't work that way.

After I got one back from a customer that had delaminated I decided to quit offering the service. The one I got back was done before I owned the shop but is still my responsibility. :(

Now I send people that can't be talked out of the service to the local trophy shop.
The customer is happy and I am relieved of the responsibility.
It wasn't really a profitable service anyway.
