Some days, we all experience an aggravating job that doesn't work out like we anticipated or a customer that drives us nuts. Yesterday was what I considered to be a perfect day.
1. Everyone I called came in to pick up their completed work.
2. All the jobs I priced were readily accepted (with 1/2 of the total put down as a deposit).
3. Each job I worked on went together perfectly.
4. Got TWO thank you notes in the mail for work I had done.
5. A friend brought me a chocolate covered donut.

Should I be worried about today? Will the good luck hold up? Should I stay home with my head buried under the sheets?

Hope for a replay of yesterday!

Days like that are kind of like Christmas.

They come but once a year.

I did have a customer with a massive order (it took four and a half hours to design and order) run to Chili's and bring me back some nachos and a soda...which made a good day for me, since no one ever feeds the framer.

Can I tell you about my best day in 24+ years of business? It wasn't even a business day!

My first Christmas in business, I had no concept of the word "no." I felt a moral obligation to take every framing order that came my way, even on Xmas Eve.

On Christmas Day, a customer showed up at my house (I'm surprised I wasn't at work) with a fresh tree he cut himself and a box full of lights and ornaments. He knew I hadn't had time to worry about stuff like that and he thought I should have a Xmas tree. I could barely move from exhaustion, so he put up the tree and decorated it for me.

I've had customers bring me homemade cookies and pizzas when I've been working overtime. One sent roses to my wife and apologized for "making me" put in so many hours. But the Xmas tree guy was still the best. He moved away years ago, but I have no trouble recalling his name.

Ron

BTW, now I start to say "no" shortly after Thanksgiving.

But if he was still around and needed some framing done, you'd move heaven and earth to get him what he wanted, right?

Wish more people would realize that it pays to be nice to their framer.

Amen to that, Kit....and I wish more people in management positions would realize that it's not the MEAN people who deserve the best treatment--it's the nice ones.

We had a lovely woman come in--I originally took her order--and the frame she ordered went out of stock, so we had her come in and pick another one. THAT frame went temporarily out of stock, too...and she placed this order at the beginning of July, and has yet to receive it.

And she's been the nicest, most understanding woman through it all. My boss didn't want to take care of her, or compensate her in any way, because she was nice about it--he didn't think she was going to "create a problem." Of course, if she'd raised a stink, she would've gotten any frame in the store for FREE. And I just don't think it's fair to reward the people who are a**holes, and penalize the nice ones.

So we all bullied him into calling her, apologizing for the inconvenience, and giving her the frame for free.

Now if it will just come IN, for God's sake.....
