middle of nowhere, SD
not sure if this belongs here or another place on this site, please move it if I'm in the wrong place.

I am down to making some flyers, ads, etc. I have no name! well yes, I personally have one, but its very long, difficult one. using that isn't really appealing. at all. we live where we use hot brands on cattle, and our brand is also listed for cold branding horses. thought of using that, but the one and only other framing within 50 miles uses her brand. mine is vastly different, but its still a brand theme. in that case, I'd be C-Diamond studio and framing. maybe just Diamond studio and framing?

the other thought is long ago, a relative did some geneology, and our last name meant 'black bird'. black bird studio and framing? I'm not particularity in love with birds of any sort, unless they have mashed pots and gravy on the side, but I rather like the sound of that.

just to let you know who I am, I live in the middle of nowhere, ranching country. I ride horses often, milk goats, raise most of our own everything. I make soap and cheese. as mentioned int he other thread, I do pastel paintings, also murals. love dogs.

I just want to come up with something simple and catchy enough to be interesting but not cutsie, no cutsie! and that I can live with for a long time. I know this is probably the least of my worries, but I do need a name, don't I? thanks.

Isn't the development of a business identity "branding" as well. You've got Diamond D farming, why not Diamond D Framing? Or Diamond D Fine Art Framing. You've already got a leg up on the marketing side, don't ignore it. Use the synergy, and the heck with the other person doing the same thing.
I forget my sister's brand, but the ranch is called "Bigger Hammer Ranch" from my brother in law's philosophy about repair work. I'm sure you've heard the lines. Bigger Hammer Frame Shoppe, just wouldn't have made, it I don't think.

Badlands Framing? :popc:
Black Hills Framing?
Diamond Studio and Framing is a good one.

Guess who's bored today? Black Bird? Gee what goes with Black Bird?

Warning Bad Idea

Larry's not the only one that's bored...

Name it for your location: Nowhere Framing and Fine Arts

So, what does your brand look like? You could make a cool diamond shaped frame and use that as your logo. It could be a black frame around a black bird - and call yourself Black Diamond Frame. Leave the significance of the bird to the imagination of the viewer.

the brand looks like a U^ (last figure is only top half of the diamond, all I could do with a keyboard!) Its read as... Lazy C Diamond. I do not really think the word "lazy" should be part of my studio name!

One thing that would be at the top of my list when choosing a name today, would be to check and see if you can also get the domain name for it. A web site in my opinion is one of the most important assets that your buisness can own, even in the middle of nowhere.

Hey there Karpolinzivea Nicholandreapodreavitch Copperoffski... sorry you're in this pickle.

I kind of hear you about going by your initials.... to close to Kazinsky..... and the biz would bomb.....

OK enough fun.

I saw your brand and it's funny, I read it straight off. My sisters is Lazy RC Ranch... and I grew up
ranch-ish, and have loved brands since I was a little iron in the fire.

something to consider is.... a diamond is a "not square" square. Bad for image......

As for "Branding your business", you are in that neck of the woods... or prairie as it were.

But I've got nothing there.

What may sound "cute" is actually a very clever name that I have had in the back of my head
for a few decades. AND, you are welcome to use it. I hold not patent or copyright on it, but
I may be using it in a story in the future. Just not necessarily a frame shop.

It has to do with many things that came together. I knew a framer named Zoletz. Yes, it was
Zoletz Fine Framing. He said his success was that he was the last name in the book... and
just quirky enough that people came out of curiosity, and stayed from service and kindness.

So, psychologist would say that people came because it was the owners name. So even
as a new person, they already knew the name.

I also knew Len Aaron of Aaron Brothers fame and fortune. He told me that it was a no-brainer
for them to use their last name..... it was always first in the yellow pages. The same goes for
all of the business named "Aacme" or "AAA".

The other is a question I have heard all of my life; and you have heard it too.

The question always starts the same, and is only changed by the profession.

"Do you know a good _________?"

So in our case it would be "Do you know a good picture framer?"

So, you are welcome to use the name I will never have a shop to name =

A. Goode, Picture Framer

Picking a name for your business is thorny problem. What you have to consider is, the public at large are a bunch of idiots. Put the word 'Diamond' in the title and as sure as eggs is eggs someone will think you are a jeweller. Or a pawnshop.:icon11:

Best use something completely outlandish or something simple.

I have a sign over the door: Peter Robinson Fine Art. I regularly get calls asking for 'Mr.Art'. QED

There is a local wholesaler that supplies Chinese restaurants. They are called "Legal Foods". Apparently, when they started someone ordered all the stationery by phone. The title should have been "Regal Foods". :icon11:
Sooner than junk all the fresh stationery they stuck to the name. Often see their vehicles and the name is quite eye-catching. More memorable than the original name. The logo is a little crown, which adds to the intrigue.

Find a name that 'clicks' with you. No one else can decide that for you. Remember the discussion when Mary (Maja) named her shop 'Starfish framing'?
Some loved the name, some didn't. In the end she stuck with it and I think it still makes her happy!

You might consider adding 'custom' to it...if that is what you do. ABC custom framing and gallery/studio/whatever.

Badlands Framing? :popc:
Black Hills Framing?
Diamond Studio and Framing is a good one.

I read these suggestions and the name Black Diamond Framing jumped out at me. Of course I have friends that ski so Black Diamond trails is a term they always throw around. The best, hardest trails :) Diamonds are known for their cut and quality, capitalize on that perception in your business name...

You could come up with really colorful names if you ever watch HBO's Deadwood!

I guess the name Artemis Custom Framing already tells people that I deal with art......

"The daughter of Leto and Zeus, and the twin of Apollo. Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt and wild animals, and fertility (she became a goddess of fertility and childbirth mainly in cities). "

Or maybe some other things.

I used custom framing....I have yet to ask people for quotes for home extensions.
I used to get lots of catalogs for metal working :) And cold calls for auto frame straightening equipment.
I guess the name Artemis Custom Framing already tells people that I deal with art......

Ah! Artemis is really Art am us, Like Toys "R" Us.... I always thought it was a reference to that greek goddess..

Considering your location, how about "Prairie Dog Framing"?

Everybody likes cute furry critters.
