The manuals page at http://www.thepaperframer.com/manuals.php hasn't been around very long but already people are forgetting where it is. People are suggesting in posts that others contact me to get to the manuals page.

Not that I mind giving someone the link, but people shouldn't have to wait for me to respond to get the link.

Any suggestions on how we can make it universally available without having to wait for me to provide the link? There are times when I might not be available for a day or two and I don't want people to wait.

OTOH, a search for "manuals page" lets you find it pretty quick.

Larry and Bron, I'll talk to the other mods about how best to answer your request to make your threads "sticky". Some of the forums are being under-utilized so we may be able to look at shuffling some stuff around to provide room. Remember that glaciers beat us in the sprints, and have some patience.

Wally,

we have ways to link to AIM and Skype and other things in the area under our avatar. Maybe a hot link could be in there for our website, or two? One of the links could be for the home page and a hot link could also be for pages like the Manual page or like Mike's POS page of links....

To Wally and the other Mods,

We have a number of external resources such as Mike's page(s), the manuals page, the labels page, a couple of moulding calculators and possibly more. I know that when I want to look at one of Mike's pages, I have trouble finding them.

We should encourage the development of these type of resources but if they are hard to find, then they don't get utilized very well and folks might not develop the resources.

Perhaps the mods should consider some sort of links page that has these kinds of resources and is modifiable only by the mods. It could be a sticky thread but I don't know if a single post can be modified beyond the usual 60 minute limit. Adding posts to a sticky thread might not be the best way to manage resource links but if a single thread can be modified over time, then that might work. A links page (not a thread) might work well if vBulletin allows the creation of such pages.

Whatever solution that the mods come up with should be flexible enough allow for future links and in a format where someone can see them all at once.

Larry, I think a locked stickie in the Tips section would be best. Then mods could add to it without it getting filled up with comments. Like the Scarfy thread has become.

I would like a locked sticky best if a single post in the thread could be modified by the mods over time. I think that if you have a separate post for each resource it won't work as well.

Not that there will be as much info as Scarfy, but no one is going to look at zillions of posts to find info.

I did a quick search on editing ability on vBulletin. It appears that mods can edit a thread at any time - they aren't limited to 60 minutes like us ordinary mortals so using a single post for all resource links would work.

The next bit is off-topic but an interesting vBulletin option I saw on the editing option page:

Prevent 'SHOUTING'
Prevent your users 'shouting' in their thread titles/message text by changing all-uppercase titles with at least this many characters to capitalization only on the first letters of some words.

I dont like the idea of a sticky, but perhaps Framer will consider putting it up in the menu bar with a pull-down menu that has several FRAMER RESOURCES.

This would be after the next upgrade, though. The version in use on the G doesn't support this feature, but the newer/current version does. I have done exactly this on the PPFA forum, which also uses VB.

We will discuss/consider it for the next system upgrade.

Thanks
Mike

Manuals Page Improvements...

OK, did that. Any other suggestions?

Larry,

Although you currently do pop up on Search Engine Results Pages, I think you would assure yourself even better results if you were to give the Manuals Page it's own meta description and meta keywords. I believe that it currently shares these from the home page. You do have a unique Title, but changing these would help as well...

<meta name='description' content='Custom archival safe picture framing for your collectible Magazines, Comics, Comic Art, Newspapers and other ephemera' />

<meta name='keywords' content='magazine frame, magazine frames, magazine display frames, comic display frames, newspaper display frames, sports illustrated frames, magazine framing, life magazine frame, newsweek magazine frame, saturday evening post magazine framejune wilkinson, diane webber,Peter Driben,Steffa,Earl Moran,Billy DeVorss, comic frames, comic display frames, newspaper frames, comic framing, comic books, comics, golden age, silver age, bronze age, time magazine frame, Sheet Music Frame' />

I might also suggest that all text links use the terms "Picture Framing Equipment Manuals Page" rather than just "Manuals Page". This would also improve the SEO.

Thanks for providing this service.
