did I mention they are doctors

and he said, it is just a piece of paper

Imagine being asked to repair a stained glass lampshade and being told "It's only glass."

You must consider the source of the comments.
Take a deep breath and have an adult beverage.

oh, and then " I could take my business to Chinatown" - not kidding.

This guy is a pro.

Fro some reason, my day yesterday was almost identical to yours....so many repairs, bawling over prices and my only new frame order was all of $100 worth. A lot of people just walking in to chat and ask for pricing. Which is okay but you already know that they will never ever pay for custom framing as they are used to $5 frames from wally world and, as one class act mentioned, the ready mades at M's were so expensive. Sigh.

 here is to a better day today

People do not realize how insulting their comments are.

Less has shown amazing restraint by not telling his customers (or non customers) how he feels.

That's what internet forums are for.
If only these headbangers knew that they are being vilified on trade forums. :D
Whatever else these odious specimens do, at least they provide a few much needed giggles.

so, the POS plastic frame says don't use wire. probably because it will break apart under its own weight

I can't wait to here the bs when they pick it up

We must all learn--"The reason our customers have more money than we do--they don't spend it!" Today we had a artist who just picked up her canvas picture from the printer for $250.00 and could understand why I wanted $75.00 to put it on bars and install it in her frame (B.B.) style. She said she had already spent too much on the picture and I should understand she could not spend anymore to get it framed.

I think I should look for some space in the park to sleep tonight and head for the soup line in the morning. Customers think we (Picture Framers) are here to give away our labor and framing so they can live better. As I said "Those with money want to keep it"

Bill: did you mean she "could not" understand?

Had a guy last week with a battered old frame. Nice frame, usual late 19c ornate thingy but with chunks of the running pattern on top missing. When I says chunks I mean whole sections. Can I restore it? Yes, but it will not be easy and it won't be cheap. I quoted him 600GBP. He didn't like that..... I explained that the frame wasn't particularly good quality and there really was no virtue in spending a lot to restore it. Very rough carcass as was typical practice at the time. Gesso covers a multitude of sins. I said I could make a reasonable new replacement, but not the exact pattern. New mouldings of that style are not very thick on the ground nowadays. I did know of a few that could possibly fit the bill, but they tend to be discontinued when you want them.
He seemed satisfied with that and was content to leave it to me.

Anyway.... later that day I went for a ferret about in the shed and found four bits of a horrible brassy gold frame (the stuff that was popular on mirrors at one time). The actual pattern is just the right thing though, so a bit of stripping and refinish and it should do the job. And it just happened to be slightly bigger than the rails needed. Which was nice.;)

So there ya go..... Sometimes a a potential PITA job can turn into a not quite such a PITA job. And another reason I don't chuck out old frames.

Ordered some stuff the other day

Came yesterday.

Mostly heavy stuff - pots of glue and metal hardware.

Among it were 10 spotlight bulbs.

All just put in a box with no packing whatsoever and lots of space in the box.:icon11:

All that heavy stuff rattling about in the back of a truck for a few 100 miles.

Guess how many spotlight bulbs survived?

All of them!

Yaaaay!!! ;)

turns out the guy who beat me up on the phone(the doctors husband) is a lawyer.

who would of guessed?
