A few years back, a guy took full page ads in trade mags, PFM, I think selling his revolutionary method for getting rich in the framing business. He sold his secret for a few hundred dollars. Does anybody remember him, or what happened to him? Did anyone buy his deal?

Found out later he was from Buda, TX and did metal sculpturing.

A "Buda Pest", eh? I missed that one.
I never believe "get rich" deals. I figure, if they know how to get rich, why are they trying to sell me this idea?

I don't think anyone has actually gotten filthy rich selling custom framing. Maybe by attracting people to a store with custom framing, and then selling them a lot of other things.

His name was John Alanis. His story was that he was a starving small shop owner (presumably a frame shop, though he never stated exactly what it was other than to call it a "gallery") but he learned some "marketing secrets" that allowed him to "skyrocket" his business.

His ads prompted you to call a toll-free number, which had a recorded message, that asked you to leave your name & address so he could send you a "free report". This "free report" was actually a very long SALES LETTER that attempted to persuade you to purchase his "marketing system".

My gut is that if it really had worked he would have sold a bunch of them and would still be in busuness. But who knows? Maybe his stuff was right on, and (knowing the nature of alot of people in our industry) maybe nobody was interested. I'll give him the benefit of THAT doubt.

Anyways, last I heard, he was working for Direct Marketers named Michael Kimble and Dan Kennedy. And if you go to THIS WEBPAGE and scroll down through the testimonials, you'll see a nice, long testimonial by good ol' John Alanis himself. Then go to the homepage and I bet what you'll see is very similar to what Mr. Alanis was trying to peddle to our industry.

MAX

I'm glad you remembered that, Max. I remember "cussin" and "discussin" it in 1998 or '99. As I recall a Grumbler tried it and later reported the results on the G. If you try searching for some of the phrases in Max's post, you might be able to find it.

And then there's THIS GUY who poses the thought provoking question " Is there a Picture Framer inside you?"

Right now Ron is saying 'well let him out' to himself as he's reading this.

His site has that 'buy now and we'll throw in . . . at no charge' feel of an infomercial.
