On another thread--the Liberman's DVD--I confess my computer stupidity. So I'm not embarrassed at this question either. I was noodlin' around the Microsoft site last night and came across a bunch of really cool templates for business and personal financial use. Yet when I "save" to my computer, I can't use them.

Are these jsut as the name implies--templates for me to print out and then put into Excel, or can they be used "as is" off the Microsoft website?

Answers would be appreciated 'cause the one for personal finance looks as good as Quicken

They may even be for Microsoft ACCESS. Both of these programs are bundled with the OFFICE XP package. (about $589.00 retail, $229 or so OEM)

So if I've got Access, and/or Excel I could use them? If that's so, Mike what's the address for them?

I'm using Access and trying to teach myself. (Something like "the lawyer who represents himself is a fool...") I have sooooo much info on customers, but don't really know how to utilize it the best. Quickbooks is great, but it doesn't handle customer info very well.

Still trying....

Betty

Shoot, just noticed the WHOLE title of this thread - Windows XP. I've got 98 with Access and QB 2000. Oh well

Mike, I've used a number of the Microsoft templates with no trouble at all. Unfortunately, as I recall, what you have to do depends on the template. What was the web address of the templates you are interested in? I can try to get them and tell you how I did, if you'd like.

Most of Microsofts' Templates have to do with the Office suite, which includes Excel, Word, Access. however, you need to check the version of Office you have and what Version the Templates are for. If the template is for Office XP it may not work in Office 97. If it is for 97 it will normally work in XP. But, you have to have the programs to use them.

JNerry: found the templates on Microsoft's website after I had finished updating all the stuff on my new computer having to do with XP plus all the office suites. I just havent had time, I suppose, to really play with them.

BUT all that said: if you guys think it's possible to actually USE these things--as in put them to work as they exist, then I'll play with them some more to get them towork.

Ijust wanted to be sure they weren't "templates" n the true sense of the word; that is, models you then used to build your own bases.

Will play with them tonite to see if I can't get them to do what they're supposed to do

Thanks for the help

well finally figured out the problem. I'm using Earthlink's Total Access--a revision to their standard opening web pages--and I had to "unblock" the popup blocker. Once done, I'm in business. :D :D
