Hello all,

What are you all using to tape glass to the framing package?

We have been using Scotch 600, but the latest few shipments are not pulling up cleanly from the glass and leaving a lot of residue that needs to be cleaned up.

We tend to tape the perimeter on optically coated glass but only put strips every few inches on un-coated glass. When we cut off the strips under the rabbet and pull them up, the tape leaves a lot of goo.

Is there a better tape out there that won't leave behind residue?

Thanks!
James

We've always had good results with clear Framer's Tape. The tape's pretty strong and the adhesive isn't too gunky.

we use clear framers tape II. our application method differs from yours in that we only overlap the face of the glass about 1/8" so we don't have to trim and peel. No residue to worry about.

Yeah, we do that on Museum and AR. I think the only reason we don't on everything else is that we have done it our way for as long as anyone can remember. I guess it's time for a change.

Thanks!

We use 3M 810 tape. I have disassembled pieces that I taped 25 years ago and the tape peeled right off as neat as can be.

I like 3M 5910 Highland clear tape. I used to order it from United. Not sure who carries it now.

I use masking tape. ;) It does leave a residue, but only after it's been rubbed down so easy the trim back on the glass-face.
If it does ever need to be cleaned it's easy enough with a bit a wirewool and a dab of mineral spirit.
I don't mind the goo though. The thought of those pesky bugs getting stuck in it far outweighs the effort of cleaning it. :D

On coated glass I use P-90 and lay it on carefully so I don't have to trim it.
