I searched through the archives and found a great reply from Orton regarding mounting tapa cloth in a preservation friendly manner. My only question is, what if there are two individual cloths, one on top of the other? A customer brought in a gorgeous piece- or is it pieces?- from Fiji. The smaller of the two holds the image, and is about 19x26. The larger is a solid red to provide a border, and measures 26x32. We're floating them on suede and putting them in a shadowbox frame. Mounting the large border cloth is no problem, we'll use Orton's advice and hinge through the suede board. What about attaching the smaller tapa cloth to the larger? V-hinging is the only way I can think to do it, but it seems like it might be too floppy. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Kara

have you tried a static mount for the artwork. It is possible to mount them on a piece of plexi and either cut a mat opening or place a suede mat underneath the plexi for color. The only drawback to this method is that the mounting method is delicate and risks the artwork becoming unmounted. Also, the artwork must be lightweight in order for the static to holds the artwork's weight.

Sheesh- quick reply! I've static mounted cibachromes with plexi and they always come out great, but never really thought of mounting a tapa cloth that way. I'd be kind of nervous about it coming back to me without hearing that someone has tried it successfully. Also, would the static really have enough pull through not one, but two cloths? Anyone out there tried this? K.
