First of all, this site has been so helpful! A client brought in a large tapa cloth (cloth made from the pounded bark of trees) and we were able to figure out a good mounting method. Thanks. (We used rice starch and it is holding up beautifully!)

Anyway, the client came in again today and asked us if we could find out any information about how much it might be worth. We weren't sure where to start really. If anyone knows how much a 40 x 50 tapa cloth might go for, could you let us know? Or if you know where to look and we can try to find out for ourselves.

Thanks so much!!

Like most framers that I know, and the person I learned framing from, told me never to give an estimate of value. Only on rare occations have I strayed from that piece of advise and the people I did give estimates to were family members or friends that I have known for years. I make it very clear, even to family and friends, that I don't know what I am talking about (even though I may have an idea - magic word being idea) when it comes to appraising and warn them to get an appraiser to give them the value if they are planning to sell or buy. I would recommend that you think it over before handing out an idea of value and suggest you advise your customer to contact a person who is qualified to appraiser that type of item. Just a thought...

thanks

thanks so much! i did browse ebay a little bit, and there really doesn't seem any monitary value. i think i'm going tell the client that if she is really interested in selling, she could take it to an appraiser. that we can't say with any certainty how much it is worth. but that by looking at ebay, they do not seem to be selling for very much. thanks so much!
