Hi Everyone!
I've been framing for over 5 years but never took the CPF. I think Its about time to get serious and do so. I read many postings and have learned a lot from The Grumble. This is my first Posting though;)
Just wanted some advice about taking the PPFA's CPF Exam. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best be prepared (other than the suggested books to read)? Thanks in advance for all the advice!

Read all the recommended literature for it, that is what the test is based on. Your local chapter will loan you the books, but make sure they are the right ones.

Nope. There are no shortcuts. Get the recommended books. Study the specific references. Study them some more. Learn the book references inside and out. Serious study is the only hope, unless you are incredibly lucky.

Many framers believe their years of back room framing experience would teach them everything they need to know to pass the CPF exam. No. The CPF exam is all about the things that back room framing experience does not teach. That is why there is a 40% failure rate for first-time CPF candidates. After they fail once, then decide to study seriously and take the exam a second time, they do much better. Doing it right the first time not only saves wasted time and money, but also avoids shattering the ego.

Thanks a lot. I have not intentions of "Wingin it" LOL! I did however want to know if there were things that are NOT in the study materials that I may need to know. I don't want surprises. I did purchase the entire Library of Professional Picture Framing. I figured why just buy two of the 7 books in the series. And I have all of the other recommended materials. I have been studying for a few months now, I may give it a go the end of the summer.

Hey annointed.... there are a number of threads on this whole subject.
You should really read those.

Everything you need to know is in the Study Guide references. The only surprises will be the details you overlook in your studying or forget. And unless you have a photographic memory, there are likely to be a few of those.

I have been studying for a few months now...
You're off to a good start. Keep studying. Best wishes for a pleasant exam experience (Ha!) and a happy outcome!
