Hi All: A large picture was returned today. It was picked up over l5 months ago but sat in the shop 6 months prior to that b/c customer was having "money problems". He wants clear glass instead of the non-glare. No problem. States this picture is worth $12,000. and did we drymount it. (oh god, I hope not. LOL) l00% sure it was conservation mounted, pulled ticket to confirm it. Not good enough, wants it taken apart right then. OK, no problem. I casually asked if someone had inquired as to mounting procedures as I was taking it apart to PROVE it was conservation. Of course someone had and said the picture would be worthless if drymounted.$$$$$$$ Side note: he's parked directly in front of store in a "to die for" SUV with a "for sale" sign on it. Then he thinks he may want a new frame. He also brings in 4 other pictures we framed...if they had non-glare he wanted regular-if they had regular he wanted non-glare. We gave him bad glass advice. HUH? This gets better, but would be too long. Did he forget his pill this morning or was he looking for free money? Thanks Cody

Cody--

Sounds like SOMEONE bought too much internet stock.

Seriously, this guy was obviously hoping against hope that you had botched his "$12,000" print so that he could sue you for damages...and now that THAT failed, he's scrounging for a reason for you to give him a refund/rebate/whatever.

I hope you charged him for all the glass replacements. What a crazy idea...he must be desperate. Ignore him, and DO NOT give him any refund for anything you've done.

I realize I sound a bit angry. LOL I've just seen SO many people use ANY excuse they can to avoid paying for something, or to get their money back.....

I don't care what color your sofa is.

You bet I charged him for glass/refit, etc.Did he whine! Asked for payment -"I didn't bring my check book." Let's see, wanna leave that cute SUV as deposit? He did pay in full finally, but I really think he was trying to pull a fast one!

I've had that happen several times over the years. You are correct, this clown is trying to set you up for a refund or a lawsuit.

I make a point of charging these clowns a double re-fit charge Before I take their pictures apart. I tell them if they are correct in their accusations the money will be refunded.

In every case except one, the customer had a change of heart and decided they didn't want to gamble on doing it.

The one customer that was positive we had destroyed his "Artwork" was totaly T'd off at me. He wanted his money back and said he would sue me if I didn't refund him his re-fit charge. Of coarse there was nothing wrong with his picture when we opened it, I had to re-fit it with him standing there.

He pulled me away from my work for over an hour and he didn't want to pay. I gave him my attorny's name and phone number and told him to go ahead and sue me. Suprisingly I never heard from that waste of skin again.

Oh God, John. I never heard that one before!
"waste of skin"! Snicker, snicker. I can't wait to use that one.

.com gone bad!
I'm glad you received full payment.
I wouldn't have wanted to take that bet.
Do you think that his estimated value of the artwork was in the ballpark or, was he just fishing???

Thanks everyone---seems my insticts are still intact. His money problems last year were with the IRS, maybe still are. I honestly think if the work had been drymounted he'd have wanted $12,000. And maybe he'd have been entitled to it if we were stupid enough to drymount an original. If it were worth that much he should have mentioned it when we first took the order....said yesterday he didn't pay that, but that's what it's worth. He definitely picked up a hefty tab for fit and re-fit, not to mention the glass. I knew a 3rd person had been putting ideas in his head. He's the one that when told his order was $325. he said he only paid in round figures, round it down to $300. I believe he's had a LOT of .coms go bad. Are framers the only sane people in the world?
Thanks Cody

The answer for that one, cody:

"That's ok; let's just round it up to $400 in that case because that's the only way we know how to round 'round heah!"

Here's a pearl of wisdom from my mentor, told to me some 20 years ago..."Treat every picture like it was worth a million dollars, that way, when you get one that IS worth a million dollars, you'll know how to treat it!"
