greetings everyone! i spent a few delightful minutes this morning chatting with Judy N, Mike, a few others - so glad to be here! could anyone advise me on an all-emcompassing, thorough, and up-to-date book to purchase regarding picture (and all other art) framing techniques? i would appreciate it very much! yesterday i dismantled a frame, stuck together with, FLYPAPER strips! o my gosh, i think i've found my life's calling!!!!!

Hey Pinecone - welcome to the Grumble and surely you have given us a "first" - FLYPAPER STRIPS!!! LOL! Maybe they wanted to be sure and keep insects out as well as dust?!?

Vivian Kistler has a lot of books out there and you can find all the best and most recent offerings by our industry's greatest minds at DECOR magazine's website - or through the PPFA bookstore.

Beware - both framing and the Grumble are thoroughly addicting!

Welcome here, pinecone.

If you are looking for one "best book" for framing, you will be disappointed. Framing includes lots of diverse products and procedures. No single author, let alone one single book, covers everything.

I suggest you begin building a library of books on all framing topics, starting with the PPFA bookstore. Their CPF Study Guide is an excellent source of framing book referrals, even if you have no aspirations to earn that qualification.

And take classes. If you are anywhere near Denver, the PPFA chapter there has very good and friendly members and meetings. Get acquainted. Also, save your lunch money and go to the West Coast Art & Frame (WCAF) show in Las Vegas next January. For a few hundred dollars and a few days' classroom work there, you can choose from the industry's best selection of classes, offered by the best educators in the industry. It's fun, too.

The Vivian Kistler "Picture Framing" book one is a very good introduction. There are more books in the series that deal with specific framing topics.

thank you to all for your suggestions - much appreciated - Jim Miller, i was already suspecting that a library of books would be necessary, from the PPFA resources list which i have checked out because i hope to take that test one day - it is all very new and exciting to me - and what a great forum! thanks again
