I just tried opening the DVD drive on my laptop and it won't open. Does even feel like the button is going in when you push it. Is it dead or is it some thing that can be repaired?

Have you tried a paper clip into the tiny hole on the face of the drive?

Thank you Pat! I didn't even know that existed but it worked! Now I can install the printer software I need to get on it so I can take it on location tomorrow.

Well I fixed a card reader with a slightly bent pin last week using a bobby pin. All repair kits should include both paper clips and bobby pins.

I've seen laptops do this occasionally. The button is software controlled and sometimes it can get stuck in the locked state. Usually rebooting will fix it.
