stuck Disney cell

A customer brought in a 30 year old Disney cell that has partially stuck to the mat backerboard. Does anyone know how to get this off? Of course without any harm to the cell. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ronda

This sounds like a production cel and not a
decorative sericel. If it is, the paint used
to make the design probably had things added to
it to make it sticky, so it would cling to the
plastic. This poses a problem for removal, since
whatever is used to loosen the paint from the
background may tend to dissolve it. If it were
shipped to Southern California, where there are
some people who work with cels, it might shift
in transit, tearing the background or the paint
layer. This sounds like a situation that may be
best left as is.
