We are remodeling the shop including the corner sample display boards. Recently there was another thread searching for Velcro fabric for this purpose. In the past I have used carpet and covered the entire wall bit this time I am considering using strips of self adhisive velcro.

I have seen many a sloppy looking wall when the rows start to go askew. With velcro strips, that can't happen. I have also found strip velcro to be considerably cheaper then the fabric. The only down side I can see is that it is not a flexable to arrange samples in unusual designs.

So which do you have and why?

Since it seems you're doing 'er up right I've seen something I really like that may address the crooked rows thing. I've seen smaller "columns" of samples walls. Think something like 2'x 6' vertical strips of sample wall framed out with trim and space between them. Each column would hold like 3 samples wide. It would seem that the samples would stay straighter and more organized by having smaller clumps of samples instead of the more popular wall-o-frames. It would also lend itself to any type of segregation you may choose (price, color, style...).

Good luck.

Carry on.

I use strips of thin timber covered with velcro strip. Three screws fix them to the wall. All samples in neat vertical lines. To get the same area with fabric I would have to cover an 8' x 20' area.

Jay, that is pretty close to what I am thinking. My plan is to use 30" hollow core doors painted black with 3 black velcro strips per. These would be floated off the wall with 2x4s behind them and hung with z-bar. They would have 6" of space between each panel. I also plan on making triangular row markers for the bottom of these. The beauty of this is that it can be moved very easily and is relatively cheap. 30" hollow core doors are running $20 each.
