StopMessenger.com?

Where in the heck is this annoying pop-up messenger service coming from, and how do I get rid of them. I won't go to their website as they would like.

Did I down load something, or are they taking advantage of Instant Messenger?

There are a few services to which you may subscribe. I have not used any but one name that comes to mind is "PopUpCop" (sorry, I don't have a link).

I believe that they charge something like $30.00/year to eliminate those annoyances.

BUT, I have also heard that in some instances on commerical sites that they may interfer with on-line purchases, somehow.

These boneheads are the one creating the pop-ups and offering the solution.

o Disable the Messenger Service Manually:
-- Click on the Start button in the taskbar
-- Open Control Panels
-- Go to "Administrative Tools" (XP users may need to go to "Performance and Maintenance" first, then "Administrative Tools")
-- Double-click on "Services"
-- Scroll down to "Messenger"
-- Double-click on "Messenger"
-- Change the Startup type to "Disabled"
-- Click "Stop" to stop the service

You've gotta give 'em credit for a great marketing strategy, though!

Cool - thanks Jerry, I'll give that a try.
