We received a last-minute job of lining a stained pine box with microsuede. (hmmm......no, not that kind of box.)

Anyway, can I just roll the inside of the box with Frank's Fabric glue and expect the microsuede to stay put after drying? The wood has been stained and lightly varnished: this is a rather botched-job project, sad to say, but needs to be done as a present for two men who recently lost their father.

You shouldn't have any trouble with the wood part if you sand it lightly where the fabric will be placed, however, the microsuede might be recalcitrant because a lot of non-natural fabrics don't like PVA adhesives.

Like modern ribbon trims - they have to have a coat of adhesive that dries on the back first before they will stick to anything - in which case the glue sticks to the ribbon and then the dried glue sticks to the substrate.

But the thought of trying to apply PVA to the back of microsuede - YIKES - I don't know - hope Baer comes along. He knows everything. ;)

Great....just great. Trouble on a rush job. :icon11:

Maybe stick the suede to matboard, then that the the wood?? But then you must countermount to prevent bowing....but then..

sigh oh heck

You can roll the adhesive onto the fabric and the wood, both and wheh they are dry, heat bond the coated fabric to the interior of the box.

Or do it the easy way ... Suede Tex Fibers and Mini-Flocker Applicator

Like Andrew said only....
If you can find just the Suede Tex fibers and not the applicator you can coat the inside of the box with Frank's Adhesive or other pva glue and then sprinkle the fibers around. Put alot in the box and shake. Word of warning....the fibers go everwhere so do this outside!

Other thought....mount the micro suede to mat board and then line the box

Hugh is there.... but what a PAIN.

I would roll either a 1 or 2-ply rag board and mount the suede. Once it's down, then mount that to the wood.

If you want the thickness of a 4-ply... roll the one side and mount kraft.... It's going to wrinkle so I would squeegee it on. and keep smoothing it out. Once it is stable... but still feels cool/damp; flip it over and mount the fabric.... and through it all in the press to cook.
