what do you guys use for labeling the backs of frame jobs you've done?
we've used a sticker for the label.
but I was thinking of changing to a self-inking stamp... just for something new.
It's only 20 some bucks for the ink stamp and around $70 per thousand stickers.
gimmie me some pros and cons if anyone wants to throw in some thoughts. :icon21:

I use a business card. Mine happen to be plasticized cards the same size as a credit card.

IMHO I think a rubber stamp isn't very attractive. Why not add a few cents to your fitting charge if necessary and use either foil stamp stickers or a business card?

I believe it is important for the back of a framed work to look good and represent you well.

yeah, we been using the stickers that have black background with the gold foil lettering... but i get bored of things easily.
However, I hadnt thought of using my business card!
interesting thought... thanks dave!

I use a stamp.

It can't be peeled off

There's no self adhesive to one day give up - as we know it does.

It's convenient.

It won't fade as quick.

It's part of the back - not a separate thing.

It's more eco-friendly.

I use it over the sealing tape (we don't use dustcovers over here - mostly) therefore if A.N. Other framer opens it and does something nasty, it is wrecked - that framer could remove and replace your label. Probably a bit paranoid there.

On some jobs I'll put the stamp in the centre and stick on a business card at the bottom as well, with ATG tape and a few blobs of PVA.

Another side note:

I have three lines I write underneath the business card which I hand write with metallic pen on the black kraft paper backing.

Line one: My signature

Line two: The month and year the piece was completed

Line three: "For the Jones Family" (or the like)

In the upper left corner I put the order number.

I was using stickers...until I ran out. Now I have switched to the business card which I think looks much nicer. I think it depends on the quality of the stamp, sticker or card you have.

IMHO stamps look 'cheap' and unprofessional.

The back of a finished frame should have the same quality appearance as the front, whatever the quality happens to be!

Stickers.
I mean, gold labels.

Tried the stamp.

What Osgood said. Just looks more professional.

We use gold labels, too

We put a lot of information about the framing on our stickers, so we print our own by LaserJet on 2"x4" white shipping labels. Sometimes we will customize labels for a large or special job.

We use business cards from Vista Print and a dab a ATG. We had ones made just for the backs.
