hey all!! i'm new to the grumble, and was looking for some help!

i learned the skill of custom framing while living in boston a few years back, and am trying to start my own here in small town ohio! my father is a retired carpenter, and is letting me use his woodshop @ his house. i've done the retail storefront thing before, and am now focusing on commercial accounts, which is starting off quite well. i have a couple of local businesses that want me to do large quantity orders for them, which is just my cup of tea. i have the space, i have the customers, i have the knowledge and the skill... but how in the WORLD do you get a distributor when you run out of a residential setting?!? any and all help would be so so sooo appreciated =)

thanks again!

Hello Jennifer welcome to the Grumble.

I'm home based and have absolutely no problems getting suppliers. You first have to get a state re-sale tax ID number. That you will have to get from your state, county, or city depending upon how it is processed in your area. You may also need a city license, again that depends upon if the city, county, or state require it.

After you have your tax ID and license I suggest you contact the moulding suppliers around your area or contact International Moulding, Omega Moulding, Max Moulding, Studio Moulding, Evald Moulding, and the list goes on. I have 5 different resources for mouldings and supplies. International and Omega carries all supplies plus moulding. For just supplies United, one of the sponsors here on the Grumble, will be a great resource.

Lots of luck

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the "G"!

When you get a moment fill out your profile with a little more info. We like
to know who we are talking with here and have quite a nice community
of helpful framers here. I'm sure you will have both much to learn and
much to share with us in your travels too.

You will have a few Ohio folks chime in with suggested sources.
Free truck delivery would be an important factor to
consider and there are many regional suppliers.

You should call Culvers, they don't give a carp who they sell too. Just be careful or your clients may become theirs.

YES I am bitter.

Jennifer, Welcome to the 'Grumble family. This is a great place and I know you will love it here...

Le Winter moulding out of Pittsburgh delivers to many parts of Ohio twice a week. Orders over $100 get free delivery. Somewhat limited mouldings, but they've got everything else. www.lewintermoulding.com, or 800.633.886
