Hi Grumblers,
I haven't been on here for awhile (really busy here!), but I have a question for y'all. Do you ever stack plastic self adhesive spacers? Just wondering?

thanks, Bonnie

never tried... i feel they are to skinny to stack up to high with whatever you put on top of them... so id be interested to see if anyone else does as well.

Yeah, i wouldnt think that would be such a great idea. Too unstable. why not make matboard/foam board cut to the height needed?

I've done it in desperate times when supposed to have 1/4" spacer and I only had 1/8". I will shadowbox w/ matboard if over 1/4" inch though.

Also, depending on the lip size, you can usually see a line between the stacked spacers.

yeah, i've never actually done this and I think you would see the line between the two spacers. I might just buy the larger ones. I need these for a needlepoint under glass without mats. So I want higher than 1/4 inch spacers. These needlepoints also have beads on them. Soooo, I think i will need to get bigger spacers.

How deep do you want it? We stock FrameSpace up to 3/4" deep. It's clear, so we can add any matching matboard color.

Beyond that, we use mat-walls reinforced with 4 mm polyflute or 1/8" foam board.

Spacers can be made (in any depth) of conservation quality 4 ply glued to lignin-free corrugated or a similar substrate that is then cut into strips on a wall mounted cutter. These spacers can be secured to the glazing with a strip of card stock, that is glued to the outside of the spacer and is long enough that it laps over the edge of the glazing. This configuration will keep them in place for decades, while pressure-sensitive adhesives may be vulnerable to heat, cold, or oxidation all of which would discourage the use of stacked spacers that are secured with pressure-sensitive adhesive.
