I did one of the stupidest things I have ever done as a framer. One of the people I work with was loosing his grip on a case of glass. I had a pair of scissors in my hand to I flung them onto the work table to quickly keep him from dropping the glass. The scissors hit a can of spray adhesive in the corner of the work bench and poked a hole in it about half way down and air started shooting out. I helped with the case of glass and then noticed that the adhesive was now shooting out the hole. I grabbed the can and got sprayed all over my face, glasses and clothes! I was so mad for being so stupid. I tried everything to get the glue off my fairly new glasses but did not want to get too aggressive with all the coatings on the lenses I had to pay for. I went home at lunch and found some of Mrs. Meyers Clean Day household cleaner and low and behold it took all the glue off and left the coatings. As an added benefit I found that Elmer's spray adhesive is a great way to remove the hair on your arms.
Thank you for letting me vent.

When times are slow, framers can start offering hair removal services.

I wonder how many 'Brazilians' you could get out of a can of spray adhesive.

I know, I know, Baer would still prefer I use Frank's fabric glue.

WHOA>..... this totally sounds like a freakin' movie!!

Yikes!!! I bet you couldnt do that again in a million years!!:popc:

ps ( thank you for entertaining me while I was eating lunch... I have a great imaganation.. and I kinda saw everything in slow motion... were the sissors blue handled? :D )

Glad you are ok !

... and yet another good reason (one that I couldn't even have imagined) not to use spray adhesives!

SO you flung a pair of scissors into and punctured a can of spray adhesive, so that you could try to catch a case of glass? What I want to know is how many fingers did you cut off?

Good catch Jim, I was distracted by the mention of falling glass to notice that the spray adhesive was said to be on the work table. Was there any work on the work table? Hopefully not :)

Many things come to mind here. Beyond the "what were you thinking when you let spray adhesive in your shop?".....

I have thrown a lot of things.... but not scissors. But, to have thrown them hard enough to puncture a pressurized can?

I don't want you ever mad at me, or meet in a dark ally.

I every shop I've worked in the last 45+ years.... When glass cases are being moved, it's a two person job. Period.

I sympathize with the incident, but nothing really bad happened as a result, … however, the visual is kinda amusing. ;)

The scissors were an old pair of solid metal ones so the handles were silver and very heavy which is why the can punctured so easily. The can was about 10 years old and had been just sitting around as part of the landscape. The adhesive came out with such force that it went over the counter top and landed on the floor so nothing was damaged. The funniest thing to see were my glasses covered in spray adhesive. I did prevent the case of glass from hitting the floor so in the end the entire incident looked like a comedy routine. All ended up well including discovering that Mrs. Meyers is a great product.
No repeats please.
