You know, the plastic kind that are suppose to hold the spoon in place in the frame. What am I missing here? Is ther some trick to getting them to hold right? Do I need to use more than one? The spoon wiggles and twists all over the place. It doesn't seem to be gripping it very well. I've got 4 shadow boxes with a spoon and a photo in each. I need to secure the spoons down. I thought the spoon holders would work, but they don't seem to do the job real well. Anyone have a method they have used that works well?

Anne, I used the spoon holders twice. In both cases I used one holder per spoon and let the spoon hang down. They were Silver spoons and I put turnbuttons on the back so they could be removed for cleaning and polishing when needed. One of them had been framed many years ago by another framer and the customer was going back every year to have the framer take it out, then remount it after cleaning. They were using silicone to mount it. Customer was thrilled when I showed her the design I did.

If you KNOW the spoons won't need cleaning I would consider mylar strips or sewing down with some thread. If they need cleaning regularly and you don't want them to hang down, use two holders.

Good Luck, and Have Fun! Cliff

The design calls for them to sit horizontally under the picture in a little box of suede mat board. I tried 2 on my prototype just now, but I'm not sure if I like how it looks. I don't know if they are going to want to remove them every year for cleaning. The customer is giving these to her children. The picture is her parents wedding picture, the spoons were part of a set her parents received for a wedding present. The customer wants to give them to her children as Christmas presents and as a keepsake.

Obviously every spoon isn't the same, but I just tried one I had here (cleaned after I use it for lunch
) and I could get it pretty snug by putting one holder between the crest of the curve of the handle and the bowl of the spoon. But, if they are SURE they won't remove them I would sew them down. maybe even get some silver thread so it will blend in better. Or maybe a ribbon that enhances the design?

Have Fun! Cliff

Spoon holders??! No one mentioned spoon holders when I posted my query about mounting a silver serving -- on the wrong forum no less

Where do I get spoon holders? Will they work on the knife, dinner fork, salad fork, spoon and dinner spoon my customer wants framed?? I'm very interested . . . tell me more . . . .

AnneL tell me what you know about spoon holders.

Do I sound excited??? 'Cause I am . . .
