Hi All -

I am putting together a shadowbox of an appliquéd Spanish dancer on a quilt and want to use the quilting fabric to match the quilt we are shadowboxing on the sides.

I tried using fabric glue on foamboard with matboard as a counter weight but the glue still bent the board into a "c" on the glue side. the fabric is so light that even if I put it in the press to straighten it is bound to bend again.

I am considering using speed mount ---

any suggestions?

thanks

counter mount

Try counter mounting paper on the other side of the board using the fabric glue. That will help greatly with the warping.

I've drymounted fabic before! Might want to try a scrap if you have some?

Speed mount probably won't have enough tack to hold, I would try Andrews suggestion, if warping is the problem mounting something to the reverse like Kdub's suggestion will counter act it.

We at Gryphon moulding are actually in the final development stages of a new product that will do exactly what you want. We sell a product called Kool Tack witch we tried to mount fabric to. It does work but the fabric can be easily pulled away from the foam board. Our research shows most customers really want that fabric to stick permanently like spray adhesive. To meet this demand we have developed a foam board with a super sticky heat mount glue just for fabric. We are also developing a thin super sticky atg for the beveled lip. If you would like to contact me with the size of the piece you want to do I might be able to supply you with a sample to try. We have tried heavy burlap, linen, silk and other fabrics and all have stuck well and are impossible to remove with out tearing the paper from the foam core. We haven't come up with a name for the product yet so we are open to suggestions.

I have had great results with International Paper brand Fome-Cor heat activated board. It has a very thick adhesive coating so fabric stays put. Many local distributors carry it.

Works like a charm on canvas prints when the customer doesn't want to spend the money for stretcher strips.
