With all the issues Frame Ready is experiencing, and the coercion of Lifesaver to use the cc processing or get a double increase in monthly fees, what about Specialty Soft? I know there are other "new comers" coming into the fold - but what is Specialty Soft up to? They have always been part of the "top three" POS and I haven't heard anyone talking about them any anymore...

There are pros and cons to specialty soft. My experience is that it's more cumbersome, but super reliable. Pricing can get very complex and overwhelming, especially for a beginner, but there are tons of reports and options to play with once(or if) you figure it out. I have never had a problem with an update, though they are not automatic and you have to prompt it to update every once in a while to stay current on moulding prices and offerings. Updates don't seem to be effective at changing anything other than mouldings for me, though. I have to periodically audit mats as they fluctuate and adjust mat group prices in a way that makes sense for my supplier costs, waste, storage, etc. Same with glass.

I use Specialty Soft and am not ready to give that up any time soon

Pricing is far more reasonable. Report system is extensive and I entered all my inventory into SSS as well

Pricing updates have been simplified, so it is not cumbersome at all. As with every POS, there is a learning curve.
Matboard prices are updated but sometimes they fall in a different price group. They use a different index for that now, so no longer mat groups but arranged by price. So far, it is working very well. Different suppliers charge different prices for mat boards, so I do keep an eye on that.

They are not cloud based (which is perfectly fine with me). As Mary Beth said, price updates are not automatic. I get an email when there are updates (for all vendors) and run it when I get the email.

There is a bit of a learning curve but they always seem ready to help if there is an issue. They had a frame shop so they understand pricing. Their customer service is excellent.
