i am looking for suggestions on what kind of archival adhesive i can use to adhere the spacer to the frame. in the past i've had problems with the spacer coming loose.

PVA glue. Clamp with pinch clamps, clothes pins or binder clips. There is a variety of he PVA from Lineco that has a calcium carbonate buffer in it and is labeled archival.

I switched back to the s-shaped FrameSpace spacers a couple of years ago for that very reason. Also, I was tired of getting adhesive on the coated side of my UV glass.

The only adhesive spacers I use now are the little 1/16" Econospace spacers, which are very nice for mounted photographs. It sticks to the glass - not the frame. I think that's true of the others as well.

If you are unconvinced, watch for Greg Fremstad at the FrameTek booth the next time you're at a trade show.

Welcome to The Grumble, Daniele.

There are no permanent pressure sensitive adhesives. The resins in wood affect pressure sensitive adhesives. If you insist on using PSA, paint the rabbet first - maybe acrylic paint would be good for this.

If you glue (glue not ATG) a slightly wider piece of 2 ply to the back side of your spacer that sticks up past the glass and down past the backing, you won't have to glue the spacer into the frame.
