I d/l'd and installed it. For the most part, okay. But it changed a couple of things. Pleeeeezzzz help me.

I have a data file on MYOB for which I created a shortcut on the desktop. Years ago, that data file got associated with MusicMatch.

Anyway, I must have done a workaround sometime because I've opened that data file shortcut on the desktop with the MusicMatch program for years. Now...it opens MusicMatch.

Mind, I can go through the silly "tree" to get to the file, but I want it on the desk for quick references.

How can you change the file type on a file or folder??? I've spent an hour saying "Open With..." trying to add the actual MYOB Program to the list of recommended programs used to open files. It won't add or even "keep" my choice.

I'm about to scream...and I'm way past bad words.

I'll pay..........pleeeezzz

Mike, do you like chocolate?

To specify the program that opens files with certain file name extensions:

1. Click Start, click My Computer, and then locate and open the folder that contains the file type that you want to use.

2. Right-click the file that you want, and then click Properties.

If the file type is recognized by Windows, the type of file and the program that is used to open the file appears next to Type of file and Opens with on the General tab.

To change the program that is used to open this type of file:

1. On the General tab, click Change. The Opens With dialog box appears. Use one of the following methods to select the program that you want to use to open this type of file:
• In the Programs list, click the program that you want.
• Click Browse, locate and click the program that you want to use, and then click OK.
• Click Look for the appropriate program on the Web to browse for the program that you want on the Internet.

2. Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if it is not already selected.
3. Click OK, and then click OK.

Duly noted though not yet absorbed! After gathering tools: chair, aspirin, cabernet, I shall begin. What's your home phone?

And why in the world would a d/l like SP2 corrupt internal files?? It buggered my POS vendors.exe as well. Drives me crazy when I don't understand stuff.

Thanx!

That's just the simple fix... if further instructions are required then someone smarter than I (not a difficult feat to achieve) will need to step up to the plate. Oh... and the home phone number is 555-5555 (just like in the movies).

SP2 shouldn't have changed any of those things but may have made an existing problem worse.

Are you all straightened out?

Oh, very sadly, no. Actually, it's not as bad as I'm making out. I can get to the data files through another source. But here's what gets me: why did SP2 corrupt files, or as you say, Mike, make an existing problem worse?

And more importantly, where does one go to understand all the permutations of file types, etc.? I don't want to just "do as I say", I want to understand it. My POS vendor just said that my vendors.exe file was corrupted and he put up a new one on the web. That worked and I'm fine with that program. But what about my accounting program? Or the other little oddities appearing as I work with Windows after the download?

Perhaps Mr. Gates should provide a toll-free tech line when you do what he recommends. Yeah, sure.

But thanks for asking! As I've stated, you're a treasure.
