Hi all,

I'm looking for a new source for super-wide ready mades. Criteria:
- mouldings 5" and wider
- very ornate
- closed corner
- must offer frames in 16x20 size
- INEXPENSIVE; not looking for real gold leaf or super high quality, a 16x20 shouldn't cost me more than $75
- must keep frames in stock (not a drop-shipper)
- will sell in low quantities (single frames, preferably)

I have used a company called Art and Frame Mart out of California for several years. But they only sell ready-mades in standard painting sizes, not in standard photo sizes. So they don't carry 11x14s and 16x20s, for example.

I've got a customer wanting such a frame. Dark gold to brownish. 16x20 of course. Ideally about 7" wide. And needs it for her wedding in about a week and a half. Because of time constraints, I can't wait for a catalog to be mailed to me. I need someone with a website so I can show images to my customer.

Any leads on a potential supplier would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

In the words of a very wise man, Wayne Campbell of Waynes World:
" Yeah, and then monkeys will fly out of my butt"

I've never had anyone complain about Colonial Moulding's quality or prices. But you ain't gettin' a 16 x 20, 7-inch ornate wood for $75. Shipping onesey-twosies will nick you for a third of that cost.
:)

I know that Omega and Decor sell ornate readymades in a variety of standard sizes, but I don't think they have anything wider than 4 inches or so. I've sold a couple of the Omega readymades (they tend towards American Impressionist style, hush Baer!), and the quality was pretty good. Decor seems to offer more of the Baroque styles (I said HUSH, Baer!!), but I haven't sold any so I can't speak to the quality.

Oh, and check out this company: http://www.artfulpictureframes.com/
-- they do have ornate frames that are wider than 5 inches.

Do you use Evald? We just got some of those that they have on sale through mid May. 5" wide, just as you describe, 16x20 under $25 right now. I guess they look ok, I don't really like them but I guess for that price they're a good deal. At that price you could probably afford to order some just to see what they're like. I'm not sure what the non sale price is because it's not the sort of thing we usually carry but I bet they're still pretty reasonable.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Tim, seek and ye shall find. ;)

I buy plenty from Omega and Decor. Just got in 2 shipments of Decor ready-mades in the last 2 weeks. However, neither of these companies offer the superwide ornates like I'm looking for.

I will take a look at colonial. I order ready-mades from them on a regular basis, but haven't ever seen frames like the ones I'm looking for. But I'll check them out again just to be sure. :) And it's probably time for me to order some ready-mades from them anyway.

I buy thousands of feet of moulding from International each year, but never looked at their ready-mades. Will do.

Evald and JFM, not familiar with them. Will check them out.

Thanks again!

John

Honestly John, I misread your original post, I thought you said you were looking for gold leaf. As I just saw that people were coming up with solutions for you I thought I better re-read it.

I would bet that International would be one to help you out.

( I have been waiting for years to use that quote here on the G, lol )
