I have a good customer that is a rock and roll collector. He brought in an Epic Records sales award (Ted Nugent) and wants me to duplicate the original moulding. I was hoping someone here may have experience with something like this. Does anyone know of a source for this moulding? The gold measures 5/8" x 1 1/8" deep and there is an inner black spacer too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie

That's a tough one ...................

From the looks of the frame, I would say that any 1 1/8" rollover gold moulding would work. Simply drag the moulding across your gravel driveway a few times, chop the miters with a limb pruner, and pound a few brads into the miter to hold it together!! Don't worry about touchup pens or filler or anything like that, it would only diminish the look of the frame. ;) :faintthud:

Seriously, that moulding looks like a fairly common gallery type moulding and, although I don't carry anything like it at the moment, I have seen similar moulding profiles from various distributors in the past. I am sure that somebody will come up with a "perfect match" for your frame.

Good luck and welcome to the Grumble!!

Is this the old school gold, like the radiator paint look? A grey green gold? The black lip is different. You may need to find the right gold, then use a fillet to get the gold lip. This looks like a '70s moulding to me, that me not be in production anymore. And if so...shame on you that produces it. But good for Jamie

You'll probably have to stack a gold roundtop cap over a small flat black to get that look nowadays. However, you might try emailing Marc Lizer. Where he is located he probably frames a good number of gold records, and may have a suggestion for this.

Hi Jamie,

You might be looking for awhile. I sure did, and never found what it is they used. My uncle was the road manager for Lynyrd Skynyrd for 35 years and those records got drug all over the states and back. When he finally settled down, I went over to see the extensive collection and was appalled at the condition of them. I have been bringing them into my shop little by little and reframing them using LJ Sonata 235058. Much nicer application than the "crap moulding" they are in now. If your customer is concerned with the change, let him know how much nicer his finished product will be once they are completed.

Good Luck,

Lori

That was Victor mouldings (I believe) 8125. It was a Guilt gold frame that seemed to be used just for those records as they cranked out of Hollywood.

It was a pisspour frame then and worse now. Getting some 1.5" bullnose from Xylo or Foster and spray Guilting will give you the same look.. or upgrade and oil size metal leaf it.
