Some people just :fire:

Heres the quick rundown of the client history
-client came in, ordered prints
-picked up prints
-came back with 1 image we printed (20x30) and 1 image from costco (12x18). Needed to drymount, mat both and needed glass for the 20"x30" print (had 24"x36" frame from Michaels along with 18x24 frame).
-picked up, was happy
-called asking for matboard manufacturer and number (obvious shopping) and we said we would call back with info (or not)
-they called again shortly there after asking for glass pricing too on 11x14, 16x20, 20x24 and mentioned that they were at one of my suppliers facility

Really? What are you expecting me to say now that you are standing at my suppliers facility besides fo and thanks for wasting some of my time with the consult?

Oh thanks, could you put (insert name) on the phone? Then if they are selling to consumers at trade prices, give them a piece of your mind. (be sure to keep some for yourself though)

I have a supplier right here in town. Sometimes folks wander in there thinking they are a retail operation. Sometimes they are trying an end run. In either case, the supplier calls me or sends them directly to me. They will not quote prices or sell to them.

I call it ethics. They call it good business. Everybody wins.

I don't know if they were being quoted prices, but for them to go there they would need to drive about 50 miles and "pass" many frame shops. Seems intentional.

Was it Colorado Moulding or ABC? Just curious. When I lived in Denver I used both of them.
Or was it LJ in Arvada?
You could just say yes or no. You don't have to say which one.

I always decline politely when people ask for mat numbers; saying that all the numbers are in my computer and they don't have to worry about it....

I know they just wanted to price shop you so it wouldn't work; I get that sometimes too; but hey, you can play stupid too, right???? :o

So, who are you mad at? The customer for trying to go as cheap as possible, or your supplier for basically stealing your customer?

The customer reads like one of those head ache customers, where she got prints done by you, and others done by CostCo (cheaper? Or used your color corrected hard work as their original to be copied by CostCo?)

Then they bring in cheap ready-mades they got from Micheal's.

Then they're buying mats and glass elsewhere to pinch another penny.

Don't know which one I would rather do business without :). But if you complain to CoM, tell them your customers are trying to circumvent you maybe you could threaten to pull your business unless they give you better prices. :)

Well, they walked into the shop yesterday to mount 2 prints and order 10 pieces of glass. Good news is that they wanted standard reflection control and I have a couple of cases sitting around since not many people actually buy it here. Make a couple hundred bucks on it, but will probably be the last job.

What they did was supply CoM a reseller ID and they gave them an account. Funny how their documents say "You must have a resale tax license, and be actively involved as a retail picture framing business to qualify as a CoM customer." Wasn't doing much business with CoM before (reps never call or visit us either), probably will be less or none now.

I stopped using New Jersey when I saw their rep talking to a customer outside my shop. Actually I stopped using NJ when that customer came in with 4 NJ frames that he wanted me to cut mats for.

But he was also a PITA customer, so NJ really just inherited my biggest headache and I got rid of a supplier that was wlling to stab me in the back.
