Hey there, everybody!

Soon we are going to be shadow boxing some very heavy ceramic plaques and I would love input into either, sources for heavy duty mounting holders beyond the strength of the Mighty Mount object holders, or other mounting ideas that you may have used for a similar purpose. These ceramic plaques are thick slabs of fired clay, so are not only heavy but between 1 and 2 inches in thickness and about 1 ft square. I am also concerned how to back the pieces in a way that supports however we choose to suspend them.

Thanks so much for your ideas and suggestions! :help:

Use the search facility to find discussions on 'formed rod mounts', in conjunction with polyflute backing.

That's the ticket!

This method has been discussed many times on this forum, so you will find lots of reading material! :)

okay, yep. going to do formed rod mounts on coroplast. any suggestions as to how small i dare go with the wire if the pieces are about 10 lbs? the more bendable the better it seems...

My favorite is .032" diameter, which is easy to bend, but it may be too small to provide the rigidity needed to support that much weight without deflection. In that case, you could double the number of mounts or double the rod before you bend it.

You'll probably need to use 10 mm thick Coroplast; that would give you plenty of air space between the flutes to encapsulate the mounts in the board.

I,ve made mounts out of wood, yes freely available and very inexpensive. Just measure desired height and you can cut wood supports with a scroll saw. Sand, paint to match ceramics color and seal.

I would suggest two sets of 5444A bridge plate & 3915 brass bezel of Lion uk for each tile.
First ,fixing 5444A at the back of the tile with a strong adhesive like araldiet. This can be then directly mounted on 3915 which are fixed with wood screws to the back of shadow box frame.
