snapshot collage

I’m about to do a collage for a customer. I’ve never done one like this, so I’m asking for tips or ideas. What is your design process for things like this?

He wants the final size to be about 36x24. He has 63 little snapshots (vacations, parties, graduations, et.) plus 3 larger pictures (9x11). And he wants me to leave space so he can add stuff more later.

We've got a couple that has tons of Europe trip photos. I chop out a 26x35 black mat board, mark the face with a 1" border and they go home and spray glue down there pictures.

Then we send it off for placking. @ $115 each. They're up to group 7 now.
