I just had something I framed a few years ago come back to haunt me. It's a Civil War document that is in tattered condition. I framed it floating on a dark background using mylar. The problem is, it's floating too much and has been slipping and sliding around inside the mylar so it is no longer centered. Is there a way to keep make it stay put? I left a bit of space between the piece and the mat, would cutting a mat with a smaller window opening help?

1. All polyester film has a curvature. Make sure your clear polyester film has the convex side against the document, so pressure is applied in the center. If the film looks bubbled in the center, it is downside up -- but it usually isn't that obvious.

2. Make sure your strips of very thin, 3/4" wide polyester, double sided tape, 3M #889 or equal, are within 1/4" of the paper's edges and no closer than 1/8". If you used ATG or any other thick tape to hold the clear film, then that probably is most of the problem.
