Simple Question ...Hopefully Simple Answer

Thanks ..... (the default size was running off to the right ....)

I feel for all you over-40's .... we over 60's just sit 3" from the screen and squint ....with a magnifying glass, of course

In most browsers, the size of this forum's text cannot be changed. This is due to the nature of the CSS that the board uses.

The size was recently increased, because several people complained that it was difficult to read. It's a bit large, but I think it's currently set at a happy medium for all. We don't want to leave anyone behind.

I recently turned 40, so I guess I should appreciate it/will want it this size soon. :)

Changing the resolution of your video card will also make a difference. Most folks are at the standard size of 1024x768. If you are at 800x600, the text will be huge and some websites will not fit on the screen. The higher you set this, the smaller the text will be.

And we over-50's only need to sit 6" away!

I finally did it, and said I was never going to...you know those string-things that you attach to the ear pieces of your reading glasses, so they hang around your neck when you're not using them, so you don't spend half your day hunting them down (I need my readers to find my readers!!) .....That.... A purple one. Ack. (I have to admit, I didn't have to go hunting one time all day long!)

I'll stick with glasses-on-a-rope, thanks, that's my limit!!

A monacle...for the Colonel Klink look, eh? Who else wore a monacle? Oh yeah, Mr. Peanut!

If you are using IE, perhaps an easier way in the long run is to display “larger” and “smaller” buttons in your Button Bar at the top of the screen.

Pull down the View Menu and make sure that Button Bar is checked.

Then choose “Customize Tool Bar”. In the screen that follows, drag the “larger” and “smaller” buttons into the Button Bar itself.

One click on either of these new buttons will increase or decrease the text size by one notch. I use it all the time when some web pages use dinky type which isn’t readable with my aging eyes.

The text size on The Grumble is responsive to these “larger” and “smaller” buttons.

These buttons won’t have any effect on images, though.

I believe that will change signature text, and some quotes, but not body text.

Val,

I just recently had to make that decision - reading glasses or the progressive bifocals!! They gave me a pair of reading glasses to try for a day, and I threw those suckers - didn't want a rope around my kneck either!! If I have to work that hard to read, and I can still see somewhat without them, I'll never wear them!! I went with the progressive bifocal lenses - once they are on, they are on to stay and no hunting!! Glasses need a remote control so you can locate them

On many websites (not this one alas) you can hold down the "CTRL" key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to make text larger or smaller.

I'm enough of a Geek to know this but not quite Geeky enough to know why it works on some websites and not on others.

Using Firefox, that does work on this site. Firefox is faster than IE, and has tabbed browsing, so I don't know why anyone persists with using IE.

On a Mac, hit Apple - to make it smaller or Apple + to make it bigger. It will stay that way until you exit the site.
