while framing a silk scarf the question arrises ..how tight should it be, I am using 'perma fluff' dacron over foamcor to give a soft pillow effect athat should help limit creases from showing, is there some standard of size increase we can use say 1" ie from 32-33 inches,
Grumbling minds whant to know

Hi Mike -

I don't think there is a standard "stretch" because there are too many variables involved - silk, weave, moisture content, age...

I've always found it to be an intuitive thing - you want just enough to keep the creases/wrinkles/baggs at bay, but not enough to overly stress the poor thing. Also, fabrics have a miraculous way of bagging overnight, when they looked perfect the day before.

Personally, I usually stretch the washed "show fabric" over the polyester fluff and secure on the reverse of the mountboard with encapsulation tape. Then I pin/block and stitch the textile to the front. If the next day there is a little bagging I can usually just stretch the show fabric a bit, and that takes care of it.

Clear as mud?

I'm sure others will share their own techniques.

Regards,

Rebecca
