Does anyone use a Silhouette Curio cutting/crafting machine? I wondered if it interacts well with matboard. If anyone has any experience with a Curio, can you let me know? Thanks,
Susan

Are we talking cutting through the matboard, or just engraving into it? I think that framers have enough tools to cut but I thought that engraving would be pretty cool.Cameo 4 can definitely cut mat board. Use a deep-cut blade, deeper blade depth and a slower speed.
Any visuals? Thanks so much!Cameo 4 can definitely cut mat board. Use a deep-cut blade, deeper blade depth and a slower speed.

Thank you so much Alberto! Since they released the Curio 2, there are many used Curio 1's at a great price. I don't think that I can use a laser engraver as it needs to be vented and that is not possible in our location. We have a Wizard which obviously cuts, but nothing too small and intricate. I was interested in engraving or drawing on matboard. I have a Wizard 8000, so I am limited on what I can do. Thanks again for the input!Hi Susan
I'm from Portugal.
I have used sihouette curio 1 to make nameplates (engraving) with the gold acrylic from Gravograph.
It makes a decent job, but now I use a laser engraver with special gold acylic (gravoply from Gravograph).
For work with matboard is not a good idea (using silhouette products), the matboard is to dense for cutting even large shapes. We have to use Gunnar Wizards and Valianis and they cost a fortune.

I'm Curious (pun partially intended) what kinds of things Andy uses the Cricut for.We have a Cricut that Andy uses heavily.
It is used for some detailed base material for some of his ARL Designs frames, mostly. He also uses it personally for his gaming hobby, to create set materials.I'm Curious (pun partially intended) what kinds of things Andy uses the Cricut for.

Thanks so much Alberto. Can you engrave in matboard with the Curio?Hi Susan
From my experience, Curio 1 and 2 they make a good job in drawing with a pen and gold foil (curio 1 with We R Memory Keepers hot pen) too in matboard, but we are as you know very limited in matboard size, we can make matboard decor in vinyl also. The Cameo 4 pro ( 60 cm wide) can take 3 mm tick material but doesn't work in alignment all the way, cause of the bad rollers, no way in cutting and engraving with this machine in matboard. The laser as to be a larger machine to accommodate a big sheet of matboard, cuts 90º very well (not bevel cut) and also engrave well for making small nameplates, needs masking tape at the top of matboard for superior finish. We can also make some matboard glued decor with a Sizzix die cutter machine ...

Hi SusanThanks so much Alberto. Can you engrave in matboard with the Curio?
Thanks so much! I guess that I should stop dreaming of a Curio!Hi Susan
No we can't, only in more rigid materials like acrylic and soft metals (aluminum), but again with a laser you can engrave and cut fine details in matboard.

Alberto
