We're kinda tired of listening to our belt driven compressor (and so are our neighbors). Wondering if anyone has a 13 gal SilAir or similar and how it's working for you. My biggest concern is using it for airgun...lots of cfm. Can it keep up in a busy frame shop? Pressure isn't as much the concern.
Thanks so much!

How about a big insulated box? Works great for our(granted, probably smaller dd)s.

Yea, I thought about that except that heat will be a problem. Thank you for the input tho!

My friend (he's a mechanic) put an air filter assembly from a 2 barrel carbeurator on his and it quieted way down and gets filtered air in the process.

It has been running this way for 9 years without a problem. (It was old to start with)

Just a thought.

I suggest getting one that has 2 heads on it. The silent ones are amazingly quiet, but they don't seem to recover as fast. We use a single pump/head AMS unit (AMS # CM50, 6 gallon) to power our Wizard and AMP Vnailer, and it keeps up fine with those two items - because of their low air requirements. This model has an air filter on the intake, and a (pc type) cooling fan for high use applications (we have our cooling fan turned off, because it never gets hot enough to need it)

When they say SILENT, they mean it. This thing is so quiet, we could literally put it under the front counter and no one would know it was there. It's so quiet that you have to put your hand on it to verify that its running. The cooling fan is actually louder than the compressor.

We picked it up last year from our local supplier, Don-Mar, and it was in the 800-900 range. We're very pleased so far.

Mike

Thanks Mike,
Actually, I just spoke with Sil-Air and they confirmed exactly what you said. The twin pump would do much better (twice...duh). I appreciate the info.

Bringing up an older thread, but JBNDog, is the compressor still quiet? Can you post a pic of the setup? How often do you have to change the filter? Did it affect the mileage? Will it run on Biodiesel?

OK forget the last 2, but what does it look like? I have to quiet a sleeping dragon in my basement!

I bought a Jun-Air from LJ when I opened 11 years ago - trouble free and dead silent ever since. I wouldn't go any other way.

When the contractor was building out our store I had him mount our Jun-Air on a platform up near the ceiling. He was quite impressed because the battery charger for the cordless drills they were using made more noise than the compressor.

I thought that was cool but then, I'm a geek.

We have (had) 2 compressors. A Craftsman from Sears purchased 5 years ago for the saw room and it's tank cracked last week. We have a Jun Air we purchaed between 10 and 15 years ago which runs the air guns, underpinner, and the Wizard and it's in great shape. I wouldn't hesitate buying another Jun Air.

Here you will find models from Sil-Air and Panther (Sil-Air's big brother). Both operate at about 40db. That's about how much noise your kitchen 'fridge makes when it runs. Panther uses less oil, and has a 2-year warranty. The small tank is OK for occational use. But get the larger tank if you have a CMC. I can supply a dual head model of either model if that is what you would like.

Have had a couple loud ones, not so good. Have a silentaire and a panther. Dixieart.com seems to have the beat price and free shipping.
