I got a Boston Red Sox cloth poster in... maybe flag... been folded up for a while. Its 20x30 in size. Ive never felt that kind of cloth before but its tough.

Its signed by all the players who won the world series. worth quite a bit

It has huge creases, and one huge one down the center. and i won't iron it. I told the guy Id hang it from inside the frame and use ez tac to hold it on. and spacer to keep the glass off of it, but as for the creases i can't really get those out without the possablity of ruining it.

I feel like if i were to pull it tight on the sides it would be wrinkled in the middle. I need to give up on cloth things and say no or something. Funny what people think you say. I said i would let it hang inside... never stretch... but he thinks i said stretch... guess that is all people think of when they have a cloth.

I thought i had a picture of it, but i don't, the guy picked it up, He wasn't very happy.. i told him i would take it out and try pulling it on the sides and use Ez tac to hold it, it to see what would happen, I think it would just wrinkle and the creases would stay, but the less you touch things worth money the better so i am hesitant.

I did say if he was ever unhappy to bring it back in and id try something after he said Ok, and was leaving.

I guess if he brings it back ill post a picture, but I really have no idea what else to do but use smaller spacer and allow the glass to press against it a bit more. I don't see them coming out over time either with hanging alone.

I guess without pictures this may be point less, but being its worth money, I am kind of stumped as to what to do, and Id like to call him with a solution if I can find one and see if he wouldbe willing to let me try it.

Thanks

it really needs to be ironed to be flattened.

that way might work, but the creases are so creased that they would still show

even ironing it won't work perfectly, but it would get it a bit flatter.

He isn't looking for perfection, just not the huge crease that there is in the center. Maybe the answer is using 1/8 in spacer instead of 1/4...and let the glass push it down an extra 1/8.

Im just letting it breathe and hang using very minimal use of eztac to hold it in. something worth 5 grand is worth it... the guy he got it from didn't treat it well... IE the creases...

Might just be easier to buy a new one for $ 12.99 and forge the signatures.

I like the out of the box thinking Dave :)

Not sure that would go well with the customer. Even with my super bad hand writing i could probably forge them all in some manner... or get that many different people to each sign a name so they all turn out different.

In this case; I probably would have advised them to go to a good drycleaning service....have them handle the creasing and the problem.

I would not have ironed it either. I assume the signatures are all in Sharpie(?).....hope you told them that even with the best glass out there, it might still fade....

It looks like it can be stretched using the muslin method; that's how I would do it in my shop. That method gets the unruliest textiles flat and tidy looking. It's a wonderful semi-passive method of stretching. You can do it in such a way that the entire flag shows, but no backing shows.

Check out the series of photos on my shop facebook page for how-tos.

It's so easy, even a man could do it.:icon21:

Looks more like a silver paint touch up marker for the signatures.

Price wise Id say he would go for the dry cleaning idea if anyone thinks that is actually a good idea. Pretty sure he won't pay for the Muslin idea. Cost enough the way I did it, without changing anything about it.

And what is a good dry cleaner. there are 20 around here :)

Would anyone on here send them to a dry cleaners for it... It seems a lot of the time unless the customer wants to pay the price to have it fixed correctly, its going to be how it came in anyways.

Be very specific to the cleaners that they are NOT to clean it. The signatures may all disappear. And DON'T let the surface of the banner touch the glazing, as the signatures (and other things) may adhere.
