Hello I am back my new years resolution is to spend time on this board and hone my craft some more.

We have been using TC Moulding since we started framing 5 years ago. since the person who helped st us up used them and we are in Western ND, And TC is in MN it is close also. we have went round and round with bad chops, moulding that is warped beyond belief.

they never have a problem replacing but what a pain. We also offer Superior Moulding/Designer, and of course Larson Jewel. I understand that with weather and all things can twist, but how come I never run into it with LJ and Designer? I am thinking Quality or in this case lack of quality in the moulding. just got these chops in last Thursday, went to join them today.

I am tired of putting jobs off another day or 2 because I am waiting for moulding the second time and on ocation the 2nd ship is bad also.

So I guess my questions are:

A. who uses TC, and If so What is your experience?

B. would you stay or go,

I have been using Tc for about 5 months now and havent had any problems. Now after saying that Ill have issues with something from them now.

I used a company for a while that had QC problems. Bad joins, missed items on the truck, etc. I put up with it for bit because the price was good - and I figured that they would eventually correct the problems after I complained.

They didn't. The last straw was a X-mas week order - one frame the wrong size and poorly joined, the other poorly joined. The rep's answer - no problem, we'll replace it! Yea OK, but the customers need it for X-mas and I have to get on the phone with them and explain why it won't be ready. I don't like having to do that-

Fire them -

@Finest Fabric how do you order yours length, chop join? we did length until we had a bunch of boomerangs laying around waiting for our rep to see. started doing chops figuring they would discard the warped stuff, but no guess they don't see it on the saw fence. Bottom Line IMO they just don't care. NO QC. On a good note for you, you should be getting your stuff from the MI plant not the MN plant at that could explain why you are having better luck. I agree TC is lower priced Moulding but we pay in the end.

I buy from TC, Superior and LJ. In terms of quality work I would rate them equal.

All three do a good job and headaches can occur with any of them.

How are you joining?

Doug

I buy length from TC and Superior, have it shipped to a warehouse where it may be heated or it may end up in the unheated barn waiting a few days for me to pick it up. Have not had any severe problems and minimal warpage.
However, I do understand where you are coming from with your complaints and do not want to minimize them by saying I don't get that.
Having said that, I can tell you that I am in the process of comparing all suppliers I currently use to decide who will become my primary since the one I was using gave me the brush off when I expressed concerns. So now I want to dump them!
FYI: it was Fameguild that gave me the same kind of treatment being described by freestyle framer

I rarely order chops. But on the occasions I do, I ALWAYS sand them on my mitre sander to make sure they're true. That way you're never left waiting.

If that's the quality you get consistently from any supplier, I would put them on notice that it's not acceptable.

If you're in western ND, you ought to carry some Montana Moulding. They're in Billings, and deliver to ND. 800-342-2353

@DVieau2

I use a fletcher 5700 Corner Pro. by Pilm 2 years old has the sliding under carriage as opposed to clamping and un clamping for each pin.

Just curious where you are going with the joining issue?

We always join L's, as in long to the left, short to the right, and then join the 2 l's together. on a narrow moulding you can push some things together on a 3 " frame like that good luck. I did not join the 2 sections together as they were so far off. this was a 2 frame job using the same moulding and the same size frame. the first one went together fine.
