Shoot now, focus later - Lytro camera

I read an article about this camera in the tech column in today's paper. It lets you take a photo and you decide what you want to be in focus after. You can even change the focus to make different prints.

Sounds very interesting. But I have to wonder how well it really works since it's being introduced in consumer level products. Most new technology is introduced into top level professional products because the pros are the only ones willing to pay the entry price.

The pro level is a shrinking market. If they can introduce it at the consumer level at a price people are willing to pay, they have a greater potential market.

I saw this yesterday and the article says they will not license it to major manufacturers. They better use a nice glass lens made by the big boys to make it worth while.
