I just ordered two sticks from MM and asked to be shipped by JIT (now Affordable). They shipped it by On Trac and charged me $30! For two little sticks of moulding. Then I found out they took away my discount. So now I just paid double for the moulding.

Anyone else out there getting the same treatment? Any suggestions.

:soapbox:

Must be left coast thing...no idea who you are talking about.

I bought some books from them once but never anything else and I beleive they were outa New Jersey.

And I have double checked these facts:beer::beer:

Do you mean M&M distributors?
Then, yes, they're in NJ.

You might be a little more detailed about who you are talking about.

If they shipped two sticks of uncut moulding from New Jersey to Vista, CA for $30 you got a great deal. Even Nielsen Bainbridge has a new program for a flat $25, but you have to buy 40 feet MINIMUM to qualify.

JIT or Ontrac from the LA area to San Diego is usually $26.50 for a box that holds two + sticks.

As far as I am concerned, M and M Distributors are one of the "good guys" and the culture of their company is a good one. Mark is a stand up guy and is very supportive of all things PPFA and of framers.

Re: your "discount" - why would you receive one for two sticks of moulding? How often do you buy and at what volume to qualify for a discount? Before posting here have you called them to ask why your moulding was not discounted?

The whole issue of freight is becoming more of a problem. One used to be able to order one stick if needed from a vendor and the cost was under $10 from one of the LTL carriers such as JIT. It's now reached a point where the shipping charges can surpass the cost of the moulding - $30 for 2 sticks, etc. We are much more careful about accumulating enough mouldings from a vendor that doesn't deliver to keep the freight percentage down. For a rush job we have to remember the freight is going to be a killer.

On a rush, no price is too much. However I asked them to use JIT and it was no rush at all. Instead they used a carrier who no one uses and charged twice as much. Anyway, I spoke with my rep and today they apparently credited me for half the freight. We'll have to watch this supplier in the future.

I appreciate all your thoughts. Guess I still have lessons to learn. Thanks. Gina:thumbsup:

Gina- I get about 1/3 of all my deliveries via Ontrac - so I guess no one uses them but me :). I sure have not found them to be any more expensive than JIT or anyone else.

Good for you. I have a feeling you've never had to purchase just 2 sticks. Just got 5 heavy sticks from Studio for just $22 from JIT. Maybe it's Max - who knows. I know every supplier has different "contracts" with delivery services. I have never paid $30, ever.

Thanks for the reply, though.

Measure and weigh it and go to UPS and FedEx to get a price on shipping it back. If the estimated shipping charge is off, let the vendor know. Keep in mind that they likely get far better rates than you will be quoted also.

Although this may not be the case, many vendors are making a killing off shipping. I think it's time we start quantifying how "off" these prices are.
