Shiny spots on faux leather mats

About a year ago we used Crescent 'leather' mats on eight diplomas. Now they are coming back to haunt us. They are back in our shop.

On subsequent orders we noticed that shiny spots appear on the mat surface if it touches the glass. We know now to recommend spacers. In one instance the spots appeared in about a week, before the customer even picked up her order.

But...in the meantime...does anyone know how to remove the spots? We've tried an assortment of things like adhesive release, alcohol, shoe polish (so much for conservation!), and others.

It's funny how we immediately assumed it was our problem. We had never read anything about using spacers with these mats before (or since). A return phone call from Crescent customer service is pending, I hope.

Today is my day off, and I still have framing on the brain. I think I'm going to go pick blueberries!

Shoot! I just used the faux leather on 2 pieces last week...first time I used it. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt me!!

I've used the faux leather Tru-vue quite a few times in the last year and nothing has come back. I sure hope someone can solve this little mystery as I expect to be using it quite a bit in the near future!

Al E,

There is a difference between the Tru Vue and the Crescent mats. Tru Vue do not have the glossy surface that the Crescent leathers have, and I, too, have never had a problem with them. The Crescent mats are quite a bit pricer, too.

Last week I called Crescent Technical Services. They were helpful, and today I received replacement mat boards. Yea! I'm a happy Grumbler.
