Hi,

I frame my own panoramic photography over here in Australia and when I frame / courier my larger images over 1 meter wide the weight and handling of 3mm glass is an issue for me.

Just after a few opinions (experiences) on using Shinkolite - is it a worth while alternative, I know other high end photographers use it but are issues such as static / distortion a big issue.

Is the cost comparable to glass.

Also what is the best recommended brand (type) for this type of acrylic and does anyone know of an Australian supplier.

Thanks for your help.

Matt,

I don't know what Shinkolite is? Is it an Acrylic? If so, like anything else the quality can vary drastically. Price of course varies with quality. Some are equal or better than glass.

Have you tried a 2mm glass instead? Do you need/want UV filtering properties?

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Just noticed you called it acrylic. Cyro makes a nice picture framing acrylic that runs a little more costly than glass. TruVue is distributing varieties of same (mostly UV filtered). Many of my local distributors carry it. I would expect you have a number of local sources?

Shinkolite looks to be a cast acrylic that is made for a few different applications.

UF-96 and Cyro OP-2 are most likely easier to find than Shinkolite.

Call your local plastic distributor and ask for a Cast product.

Price will be significantly higher than glass.
