Every once in a while, when placing a United order, I allow myself to spend some time really browsing through the catalog and supplements to see if there are any tasty items that I could use. In my last order, I went out on a limb and ordered the Dahle Shear set, consisting of 3 pairs of the best scissors I have ever seen. For years I have been struggling with lousy scissors, both at home and at the shop, and every time I go to a fabric store, I peruse the scissor display, only to turn away in confusion at the profusion.

I have also been known (he he he) to abuse scissors, cutting matboard with sewing scissors, then trying to trim my bangs.

This set from Dahle is shear delight!!! One 8" pair of regular shears, one super heavy duty All Around pair, and one tiny pointed 5" pair. I am in Heaven!!! Good thing I don't have to fly anywhere cause I have been carrying those little ones around with me in my purse.

I never realized just how awful my old scissors were until I tried out these new ones!!!!! If you are in need of scissors, these have my five-star seal of approval. :D

Framar, I'm afraid I feel a "warped" coming on, but my Mother was always fanatical about her scissors. She had (has) a pair of "button hole" scissors that I have never seen another pair like. They are small with a screw set into them so the depth of the cut can be controlled. There is also a slot in the center so that the cut can be made from the "inside out".

Now I'm sure that is all clear as mud!

Thanks for the tip, Mar. I will definately be looking at those scissors. We have a pair of Fiskars in the shop that aren't good for much more than holding down work orders when we have the fan going.

I tend to be just a tiny bit fanatical about my scissors. My son learned at an early age that using Mom's fabric shears to cut string was an offense punishable by death.

Betty, hang on those buttonhole scissors. No one makes hand bound button holes any more (including me) so the equipment to produce them is getting harder and harder to find.

When I get a new United catalog, or even a suppliment, I feel exactly like I did 45 years ago when the new JC Penny Christmas toy catalog would arrive. I've even tried making a wish list and giving it to my parents, but that doesn't work any more.

Just don't go cutting sandpaper with those new scissors, Framar.

Me, cut SANDPAPER, with scissors???? Don't be silly, Ron, I would NEVER do anything stupid like that with SCISSORS!!! But the All Around pair DO cut wire!!! Like buttah!!

Pardon me, I'm getting verklempt(sp?)...

You don't sharpen scissors by cutting 80 grit sandpaper? WOW, no wonder mine are not cutting right.
