Sharpening
Simple tip, make sure that your sharpening service uses the hollow
grind method to sharpen chopper blades. No matter what they tell
you, chopper blades must be hollow ground. This means the blades
are sharpened with a round wheel so that the knife has a concave
angle with only the edge cutting the moulding. Flat ground blades
have no area for the cutaway, that makes the outside edge chip-out.
tip #2 lubricate chopper blades with any type of light oil. Every nite
before leaving , wipe your chopper blades down with a small amount
of lightweight oil, chopper blades oxidize (rust) overnight. They will
last so much longer between sharpening you will be amazed. If you
don't believe me do this simple test. Before you leave at night, put a
brand new mat blade in your mat cutter, but don't make any cuts.
First thing in the morning try cutting a mat with that blade. You will
find the blade to be very dull because over night it has in fact rusted.
chopper blades are no different.
