I have a request from a local artist (and former framer) for something "he's seen before". He's looking for a shadowbox type moulding (i.e. tall and thin) with a gold finish on the top, but with the sides being a natural wood finish. I don't have any specific profile measurements at the moment, but I'd guess that he needs the moulding to be 1 1/2" to 2" tall approximately, and maybe an inch or so wide.

I've never seen anything like this, and my first thought is that it may have been a natural wood finish on the entire moulding that someone then painted the top of it to be gold.

Ideas?

Otherwise, A street frames makes these, but it is gold leaf on the top, so it is pricey, but beautiful.

Back in the old days Piedmont Moulding made a bunch of this type of thing. They went under long ago.

Well lookie there! Awesome! Thanks guys. I bet that will do just fine. The Studio catalog photo does not look anything like that, but that looks quite beautiful.

Their online photos are a lot better than the printed catalog.

Their publication ad for this group is a little better
