I came up with this idea of a "shadow box" for a customer. This is for a table in her foyer.

I made this "shadow box" with a removable cover by using TWO picture frame mouldings. The moulding resting on a table is 1 1/8" wide and the one used as a "cover" is 1" wide. The total height of the shadow box in the photo is 2 1/4". Outside dimensions of the entire box is 9 3/4" x 11 3/4". The inside of the box is 1" deep and measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2". No "hinges and a knob" were needed to open the box! To hide how the box can be opened, I came up with an idea... ONE of the corners was sanded down so when pressure is applied, the opposite corner lifts up, leaving enough space UNDER the cover for a couple of fingers to slide under it, then lift it up to remove it.
The mouldings used for this shadowbox consists of TWO "mahogany" finished mouldings. BOTH mouldings have identical finishes The same mouldings are also available with a "walnut" finish.
These special "shadowboxes" can be made to ANY size.
The first one i did was about 2 months ago. Since then, i have done 8 more for different customers. The smallest was (outside dimensions) the one pictured her, the largest was 14 x 17. The two mouldings used were Michelangelo mouldings.
