After reading the post about cutting surfaces, and the use of the self healing mats - which I am very fond of but haven't used in the workshop on a large scale - but intend to now!!

Has anyone used them as the underboard for cutting mats? Would this work? rather than using old scraps of mat board and risking getting the blade caught in a track?

May have to experiment on this - now. Bye.

Nevermind, Emily. It doesn't work.

Sorry. Roz

Roz,

I hope you didn't really TRY this on one of your boards!! It not only won't work but will ruin your self healing board!

Edit: Self healing boards are made for vertical cuts and will "self heal" only with a cut made vertically. If you cut at a bevel, you will cut a big gouge out of your board. I have one that I have used for over 10 years and I accidentally did this with an Exacto knife way back when.

Hey, Roz. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

I have used a piece of glass on my Ovalmaster in lieu of a slip-sheet for years. So, a couple of years ago, I cut a piece of glass to use as a slip sheet on my Fletcher straight-line cutter.

It doesn't work, but somebody had to try it.

Remember, someone had to be the first one to eat snails or do a static mount.
