I just tried doing a search for something and no matter how many words I put in, it kept telling me I need a minimum of 3 words. I had more than 3, but it still told me that. Is there a problem with the search function? I know up until recently I used to be able to do one word searches and that the software this forum runs on is capable of being set to do that. Is there something I need to change in the way I do a search to find what I'm looking for?

Make sure there are no words in your search string with less than 3 letters, and it'll be ok.

"Frame a picture" would NOT work (because of a)

"Frame picture" would be ok.

"Frame" would be ok.

Thanks Mike. Leaving out the little words helped. Now I've got to figure out how what words to use to get a result. So far, it's drawing a blank and I know there have been several threads on the topic I'm looking for. I'll keep trying till I hit it.

Another small tip to widen a search is to use an asterisk as a “wild card”.

For example, if you were to type the word, “fram*” in a search, you would get the words, “frame”, “frames”, “framing”, “Fram Sancisco”, etc.

It beats typing each word individually.

Here are a couple of other tips:
  1. Use a string search. Let's take for example the text given in an earlier post, viz: "frame a picture". If this is typed into the serach field as text without quotes, as stated in the earlier post, it will be rejected because of the inclusion of the word "a" being less than 3 characters. However if you wrap quotes around that text you will make it a string. Thus if you literally type "frame a picture" including the quote marks it will happily perform a search for this exact phrase.
  2. Use Google to perform a site search, using the format "text site:thegrumble.com". Google will perform a search restricted to the Grumble. This will enable you to search for text that is less than three characters, for example "ap site:thegrumble.com". Just to be clear, in this case you do not enter the quote marks shown in this example!
