Does anyone have any experience dealing with San Marcos Frames - the hand carved ones (www.sanmarcosframes.com)? It's a nice looking product, but I was curios about quality and reliability, etc. Thanks -

Joe

Joe:

San Marcos have good, expensive frames. All are hand-carved in Columbia then shipped to Florida (their US HQ) then to you.

You need to make the customer aware (beside of the high-price..) that those frames will take a couple of months to be ready.

And you MUST make sure the sales person in Florida confirms exactly what you ordered. Any mistake, will take a couple of more months to fix or replace.

Paul - Have you used these (sounds like you have)? If so, does the quality fit the price, and do the finished frames come out as you expect (matching the corner samples, etc)? Thanks -

Joe

Joe:

Quality was quite good for the few frames I ordered from them, and matched the samples.

Except for one where they confirmed a different finish (or lack thereof...) than the one I ordered. I couldn't tell from their confirmation fax that it will be really unfinished! I found a carpenter who stained it to match the sample.

SO make sure they confirm exactly what you order to avoid headaches and extra cost.

They also have the rabbets cut to order...specified on the order form. Make sure they get that right and that they understand where you are measuring. I have ordered samples, a couple of display frames and an order for some large mirror frames. Double checking all details is essential.
They are well worth the money.
